Materials we accept if prepared as described:
• Batteries – lead-acid: accepted only – Lithium Ion Prohibited
• Aerosol cans: must be emptied and punctured
• Paint cans: must be emptied and dried
• Barrels, tanks & totes: must be empty, triple-rinsed with large inspection opening
• Sealed containers: all containers must be open, triple-rinsed, and empty (no liquids, locked safes, fuel tanks, and fuel trailers).
• Fire extinguishers must have tops spun off to be bought at aluminum price. If tops are left on they will be bought at scrap metal price.
• Pressurized cylinders (propane, oxygen, acetylene, etc.): must be de-valved, punctured, or cut in half
o No compressed natural gas (CNG) Tanks
• Refrigerant-containing items: All refrigerant-containing items will be charged $40/refrigerator, $45/AC unit, $65/commercial AC. Any units with cut lines and/or refrigerant that is allegedly all leaked out must still be charged for. Only if a reputable HVAC company properly evacuated all refrigerant and signed off on an affixed sticker then the freon removal fee will be waived.
• Chain-link fencing: must be rolled up with slats removed
• Hydraulic cylinders: must be cut open and drained
• Transformers/switch gear: dry, open-winding type only. Prior approval is required for wet or formerly wet transformers and switchgear.
• Ballasts: must pre-submit a “No PCB Certification Form” and be segregated from all other scrap
*NOTE ON REFRIGERATORS/FREEZERS/AC UNITS:
We charge $40 per refrigerator/freezer unit, $45 per AC unit. We charge this fee to professionally evacuate and recycle the Freon. Units with “cut lines” will still be charged (cutting lines is harmful to the atmosphere!). If your unit is tagged (proof of evacuation), we will not need to charge a fee.
